Bad luck for Manuel Neuer (36) continues. After Germany, which he captains, got eliminated from the World Cup in the group stage, he broke his leg while on a holiday. The Bayern Munich star is set to miss the rest of the season.

"What can I say, the end of the year could have definitely gone better... While I was trying to get my head clear while ski touring, I suffered a lower leg fracture," Neuer wrote on Instagram.

"Yesterday's (Friday) surgery went well. Many thanks to the doctors! However, it hurts to know that the current season is over for me."

Neuer already missed seven Bayern matches this season, including three in the Champions League, due to a shoulder injury with understudy Sven Ulreich stepping in for him.

The Bayern and Germany captain returned to the pitch for the final three Bundesliga games before the World Cup. He started all three games for Die Mannschaft in Qatar, but failed to keep a clean sheet as Germany left the World Cup in the group stage.
