An equaliser in the 69th minute from Randal Kolo Muani earned Eintracht Frankfurt a valuable 1-1 draw against league leaders Bayern Munich, who saw their lead at the top of the Bundesliga shrink to just a point after three straight draws since the winter break.

Amid a week of controversy following Bayern’s winless return to Bundesliga action, the Bavarians bounced back with a strong start, demonstrating why they’ve won 10 straight German championships.

Having knocked on the door for the entirety of the first period, Leroy Sane’s goal was welcomed by an expectant Allianz Arena, with the German international sweeping home a first-time effort off Thomas Muller’s cutback - just reward for Bayern at the break, having dominated the contest from the first whistle.

Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann has criticised his side’s complacent approach in recent weeks and despite a controlled first-half showing, the Bavarian’s lackadaisical approach would once again prove costly.

Finishing off a slick counter-attacking move for Eintracht, Kolo Muani’s seventh goal of the campaign stunned the Allianz into momentary silence.

Having taken three points against Bayern at the Allianz last season, the Frankfurt-based outfit have now followed that up with a well-deserved point, keeping them in touch with the reigning champions at the top of the Bundesliga table.

For Bayern themselves, their woes continue. While they may have extended their unbeaten run across all competitions to 16 matches, they’re now without a win in three league games.

Hopes of an 11th consecutive Meisterschale still remain for Bayern, but the most competitive title race in recent Bundesliga memory appears to be shaping up, with Frankfurt certainly in the mix as things stand.
