A last gasp strike from Fabio Carvalho saw Liverpool come from behind to beat Newcastle 2-1 at Anfield. The youngster smashed home in the eighth minute of added time as the Reds made it back-to-back wins, while the Magpies lost their unbeaten record.

Isak was thrown straight into the starting line up just hours after being granted his visa by the home office following his club-record move from Real Sociedad, and he had the first real chance of the game, blazing high and wide from just inside the box.

Ryan Fraser then poked over for the visitors, while Kieran Trippier fired a free-kick straight at Alisson.

Anfield grew evermore frustrated as Liverpool struggled to find the attacking menace that put Bournemouth to the sword at the weekend.

Indeed, the hosts failed to even muster a shot on target in the first half, their best opening falling to Luis Diaz who rounded Nick Pope before firing wide, and minutes later they were behind when Isak perfectly timed his run onto Sean Longstaff’s through-ball and finished from inside the box.

Isak had a goal disallowed for offside after the break and once Harvey Elliott had finally tested Pope, Liverpool equalised on the hour mark when Roberto Firmino tucked into the bottom corner from Mo Salah’s pass.

That strike failed to open the game up as the Reds hoped it would though, with Newcastle regularly sitting with ten men behind the ball and running the clock down at every opportunity.

Díaz had two further chances, forcing Pope to beat a fierce effort over the bar from outside the box before having another effort comfortably saved.

But there was drama to come as, after five minutes of injury time had initially been signalled, Carvalho fired home at the back post to end Newcastle’s unbeaten start and earn what could be a huge victory for Liverpool come May.
