Olympique Lyon’s fantastic start to the Ligue 1 season continued rolling with a 5-0 home thrashing of Angers Saturday evening, and the result sees the Groupama club extend their home winning run to eight games, equaling their impressive streak in 2018.

The game was wide open from the first whistle, with both sides creating a flurry of opportunities. While the two teams traded chances in the opening ten minutes, only one side would find their shooting boots on the day.

The Lyon attacking players had the bulk of high-quality scoring chances, but a combination of wastefulness in front of goal and some heroic goalkeeping by Paul Bernardoni kept the hosts out of the back of the net. The opener finally came for OL when Karl Toko Ekambi stabbed home after getting on the end of a superb ball over the top from Thiago Mendes. It quickly went from bad to worse for the visitors, as Alexandre Lacazette headed home an inch-perfect Malo Gusto cross, doubling the Lyon lead on the brink of HT.

Proceedings were all but put to bed on the hour mark when Gusto slid another tantalizing ball across the face of goal, where Toko Ekambi tapped home for Lyon’s third, and his second. Teenager Castello Lukeba headed in Lyon’s fourth only three minutes later to add salt into Angers’ wound. The final nail in the coffin for Le SCO was an electric solo goal from Moussa Dembélé, who fired home for Lyon’s fifth and final goal of the night.

Four losses from four Ligue 1 games to start the season will leave a sour taste in the mouths of the Angers faithful, and to make matters worse it is the fourth straight game in which Le SCO have conceded three or more goals.
