It is one of the most anticipated fixtures of every Italian football season and one of the games that delivers the most excitement, spectacle and cinematic goals. The Milan derby has always been the pinnacle of excellence in Serie A, pitting two teams that very often faced each other for the title. This year, with a powerhouse Napoli side, this will not be the case, but there will certainly be no shortage of motivation for the two teams on the field, who are vying for second place and confirmation about their ongoing project. So here are the five most beautiful goals that have marked the Derby della Madonnina.

5. Ronaldo (Milan-Inter, March 21st 1998)

Among the most beautiful goals of the Milan derby is the one scored by the Brazilian Ronaldo on March 21st1998 (in this video below at 2:28).

In his first season in the Nerazzurri, the Brazilian scored one of his side's goals in their 3-0 win over AC Milan, gifting this piece of magic to Inter fans. 'The Phenomenon', anticipating ahead of the Rossoneri defence, pushed the ball into the goal over the head of the keeper by hitting it with his shin.

4. Jeremy Menez (Milan-Inter, November 23th 2014)

In 2014, it was a tough time for AC Milan. In the first derby of the season, Joel Obi and Jeremy Menez wrote their names on the 1-1 draw between the two teams. The most beautiful goal of the match was definitely from Menez (in the video at 1:07).

The Rossoneri player, who displayed many beautiful moments during his time at AC Milan, hit a right-footed volley, directing it perfectly into the goal from the centre of the area.

3. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Milan-Inter October 28th 2006)

The derby in October 2006 will be remembered as one of the best ever, with both teams going through one of the best periods of their history and both at the top in Europe. The game was decided by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, on this occasion wearing the Nerazzurri uniform.

The Swedish champion, having received the ball a few meters from the edge of the area, managed to get over the opponent's defence with a light touch that was enough for him to avoid the Rossoneri uniforms. Then, Ibra volleyed the ball into the net with brilliant technical ability. The goal, which was worth the Nerazzurri's 3-0 lead (the game later ended 4-3 to Inter with an attempted comeback by the Rossoneri) served to give his side the victory.

2. Maicon (Inter-Milan, May 6th 2012)

It was May 6th 2012, and Inter were leading the Rossoneri 3-2 with just minutes left in the match. Closing the door on any hope of a comeback for Milan, who were scrambling to salvage the game, was an unbelievable goal by Maicon, who scored the Nerazzurri's final goal to make it 4-2 in the 87th minute with a powerful shot from outside the box.

1. Ronaldo (Inter-Milan, March 11th 2007)

Closing out this ranking is once again Ronaldo, who donned both kits. One of the most beautiful goals (in this video at 2:00), but also dramatic, because of the off-the-field issues.

Prior to the 2007 derby, he had landed at AC Milan just two months earlier at the end of his long experience in Madrid.

His return to Italy was not well received by the Nerazzurri, who showered him with booing as he entered the San Siro. He responded with a stunning goal, receiving the ball on the right, and then powering the ball into the far corner with a great shot from outside the box. To complete the mockery, he rejoiced in front of the fans that had loved him so much in the years before his farewell.

It wasn't the end of the world for Inter though, who won the game with a comeback in the second half with goals from Ibrahimovic and Julio Cruz.
