At the ripe old age of 45, there is so much to analyse in the career of one of the best goalkeepers in the history of football, Gianluigi Buffon.

Recently, Buffon returned to talk to BoboTV and revealed some behind-the-scenes details of the last few years he spent between PSG and Juventus.

He admitted that leaving the Parisian team represented his biggest regret: "At Paris Saint-Germain, I had the best experience of my life and leaving was the biggest mistake of my career, my children still ask me why.

"In Paris, I felt like a free man, I spoke French and went to museums. I gave up €10 million. They wanted Areola to play and I couldn't accept that. And I will never see a high level like in that team again, the rondos were a spectacle and there I saw Verratti's true strength as a player.

"I knew I was in a very strong team, but the Juve attitude was missing. The game against Manchester United in the Champions League is the biggest regret of my life."

Regarding his return to Juventus, Buffon also touched on former manager Maurizio Sarri (64) and the year of ups and downs they spent together: "I know what didn't work at Juventus. Unfortunately, sometimes in order to defend your choices you have to antagonise some people...

"The way the coach presented himself, he was almost immediately left at the mercy of the results. I have beautiful memories of it, though. In my own small way, I tried to give him a hand and I still feel for him now."

They are fine words for Sarri and Buffon also praised current manager Massimiliano Allegri (55): "He doesn't apply the catenaccio style, but he relies a lot on the players. They are the ones who have to understand how to play. Neymar would like to have a coach like him."

In regard to Juventus and the season they are currently experiencing, the former Italian national team goalkeeper explained: "Now there are difficulties, but Juve is reacting like Juve. I see compactness and unity, beyond whether they like the situation or not. The 15 points penalty in the standings and the change of management have allowed the boys to form a group to challenge the injustice."

Finally, he made a nod to his future, which despite his age, is yet to be fully decided: "A return to the national team would be the wrong thing, I would block the growth of a reserve that is there.

"I would like to stop playing at the top level after next season, no more. I'm competitive and always dissatisfied, I go to the field to always improve and I never want to be considered a number two."
