Messi: 'I want to continue playing for Argentina to honour the title of world champion'
"I am not retiring from the national team. I want to continue playing for Argentina to honour the title of world champion," said Messi, the winner of the Golden Ball at the 2022 World Cup Qatar 2022, the best player in the final and the tournament.
After the madness against France, Messi was exhausted but happier than ever.
"It is the title that I was missing and here it is. It has been hard to come by, but it is the most beautiful thing there is, you cannot ask for more. Football is a crazy sport", he added.
He still has to let his achievement sink in, but he is already beginning to savour the greatest success achieved with his team.
"I wanted to end my career with this, it's impressive. I've won the Copa America, the World Cup and I've almost reached the end. I love football and being in this group, experiencing games as a world champion," he said, hinting at his desire to continue his international career with Argentina.
Of course, it will be after a breather because what he has to do now is celebrate it with his compatriots in his native country.
"Winning the World Cup is every child's dream. This is for the Argentine people. I'm looking forward to going back there to celebrate in the country and see the madness that is there."
