A study has revealed Brentford have extracted the most value from their squad by boasting the best value for money wage bill in the Premier League.

Research conducted by sports betting site Nostrabet has looked at the total teams are spending on wages and compared that figure to their respective points tallies posted before club football paused for the World Cup break.

The analysis found Thomas Frank's Bees currently have the lowest cost per point in the division thanks to their solid start to their second season in the top flight.

The west London-based side have the cheapest wage bill at an estimated £15.24 million and their 19 points recorded before the World Cup break equates to £952,500 per point.

That is the best ratio in the Premier League so far and Brentford are the only club in the division to have spent less than £1 million per point earned.

Leeds - who have a wage bill totalling £17.3 million - have the second best value cost per point at £1.15 million, while Brighton’s strong start to the season against their £28.34 million salaries costs them £1.35 million per point.

However, the numbers are more eye-watering towards the bottom end of the scale, with Chelsea holding the unwanted title for the worst value wage bill, narrowly ahead of Manchester United.

With a bill totalling £184 million, their mediocre displays and 21-point tally has their cost per point at £8.76 million.

Elsewhere, Liverpool’s flaky first part of the season has them in the bottom three with £7 million per point and Manchester City - with their huge £194.74 million bill - ranked in 17th with £6.08 million.

Premier League leaders Arsenal rank seventh in the list with each of their impressive 37 points so far costing them £2.71 million as a result of their £100.36 million bill.
