Robert Lewandowski (34), thanks to his 41 goals scored in his last season as a Bayern Munich player, has won the Gerd Muller Trophy, which is awarded at the Ballon d'Or gala to the best scorer of last season.

The Polish striker, now at Barcelona after a controversial departure this summer from Munich, has expressed his joy at being part of this soccer party.

"I'm very happy to be here, happy and proud, very happy for the name on the trophy," he said, recalling the figure of Muller.

"Gerd was our source of inspiration, I always wanted to get close to him, to achieve his goals," said Lewandowski, who sees it impossible to reach the German's goalscoring figures.

He also had time to thank "my former Bayern teammates for the award my former Bayern teammates, but also my Barcelona teammates.

"We have to work hard, that the whole team goes in the right direction to achieve the objectives."
